The 2023 season of Long Beach Poly Football certainly didn't disappoint. The Jackrabbits had a tremendous year, both on and off the field. With an impressive 9-2 regular season record, the Jackrabbits made it all the way to the CIF-SS Pac-5 Division Championship game. The team was led by an outstanding group of leaders, coaches, and players who worked hard to make this season one of the best in Jackrabbits history.
Off-Season Preparation
The Jackrabbits began the off-season with the goal of making it back to the Pac-5 Division Championship game for the first time since 2016. The team spent countless hours in the weight room, on the field, and studying film to prepare for the upcoming season. The team also had the opportunity to participate in seven-on-seven tournaments and scrimmages against some of the top teams in the region. All of these off-season activities were designed to help the team prepare for the season.
The Regular Season
The Jackrabbits opened their season with a bang, defeating their rival Wilson High School by a score of 42-7. This set the tone for the rest of the season as the team would go on to win nine out of their ten regular season games. The Jackrabbits were able to score at least 30 points in seven out of the ten games they played this season. The team was also able to keep their opponents to under 20 points in five out of the ten games they played this season.
CIF-SS Playoff Run
The Jackrabbits entered the CIF-SS playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the Pac-5 Division. The team was matched up against their rival Lakewood High School in the first round and were able to come away with a convincing 41-14 victory. This set up a rematch with Wilson High School in the semi-finals. The Jackrabbits were able to avenge their earlier loss to Wilson, winning the semi-finals game by a score of 28-14. The Jackrabbits would then go on to face off against Los Alamitos High School in the Pac-5 Division Championship game.
Pac-5 Division Championship Game
The Jackrabbits faced off against Los Alamitos High School in the Pac-5 Division Championship game. The game was a battle from start to finish as both teams fought hard all the way to the end. The Jackrabbits were able to come away with a hard-fought 28-21 victory and claim their first Pac-5 Division Championship since 2016. This victory was the culmination of an outstanding season of hard work, dedication, and perseverance from the entire Jackrabbits team.
Leadership
The 2023 season of Long Beach Poly Football was made possible by the outstanding leadership of the coaching staff and players. The coaches worked hard to prepare the team for the season and make sure the players were in the best possible position to succeed. The team captains also provided outstanding leadership, setting the example for the rest of the team to follow. It was this leadership that ultimately resulted in the Jackrabbits winning the Pac-5 Division Championship.
